Frequently Asked Questions

For Parents & Families

Welcome to the Lakers family! Whether you're brand new to hockey or just need a refresher, this page is here to help.

🧊 I’m new—how do I help my player get dressed for hockey?

Great question! We recommend practicing at home so your player learns to dress independently. All coaches are SafeSport certified, and parents are not permitted in the locker room (except at the 6U–8U levels, and only with a screened team official present).

Need a visual? Check out this USA Hockey gear-up video to help your child learn the order of equipment.

🧾 Are there payment plan options?

Yes! Registration can be paid in three installments to make things easier for families.

🎽 Does the cost include uniforms?

Yes. Your registration fee covers both a jersey and hockey socks for your player.

📅 How is the schedule shared with parents?

We use the Crossbar app to post team schedules and communicate updates.

Please download the app and RSVP for each practice and game—this helps coaches plan ahead.

🏒 Has anyone created a “How-To” for new hockey parents?

Yes! USA Hockey has a fantastic guide for new families. Check it out here:

🧾 How do I get a USA Hockey number—and how often do I need one?

Every player, coach, and team volunteer must register with USA Hockey each season. Registering with USA Hockey will give you a USA Hockey number that you will then use in your Lakers registration.

The season runs April through March, so you'll need to renew each April, or prior to the start of the fall season.

Get started by registering for USA Hockey to receive your number, and then use that number when you register with the Sara-Placid Lakers.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Who do I talk to if I have a concern about my player’s team?

Each team has a Parent Liaison—a neutral, supportive contact who can help bring concerns to the coaching staff. If you're unsure who your liaison is, check out the Team Liaisons page.

🎒 Can my player borrow gear?

We have limited loaner gear available for younger players (especially 6U and 8U). Ask your coach or team manager if your player needs help getting equipped.

🤝 How do I know when and where to volunteer?

Your Team Manager and/or coach will coordinate game-day and tournament roles, including scorekeeping, running the clock, and helping with raffle tables. Expect to sign up for a few shifts per season!

💬 What’s the best way to get in touch?
