Locker Room Monitor Role

Ensuring a safe space for athletes

Locker room monitors help to keep our athletes safe while preparing for practices and games. Monitors help to maintain a respectful environment in the locker room for every athlete.

Key Responsibilities

Arrive Early

Arrive at the time specified by your coach to open the locker room to players.

Maintain a Safe Environment

Unauthorized people should not be allowed in the locker room. Make sure athletes are dressing for hockey without including horseplay. Monitor the environment for positive and productive conversation.

Exit Respectfully

When it's time to leave, encourage players to leave the locker room better than they found it.

Requirements

To be rostered as a Locker Room Monitor, you’ll need to complete:

  1. Volunteer USA Hockey Registration: This is free and must be renewed annually. Register here
  2. SafeSport Training: A required online course that helps ensure a safe, supportive environment for all players. Also free.
  3. NYSAHA Background Screening: This is a $30 fee paid to New York State Hockey—but the Lakers association will reimburse you.
